Cold returns to Kashmir – Snow Predicted

Srinagar, Mar 3: With upper reaches witnessing fresh snowfall, cold conditions have intensified in Kashmir and Meteorological (MeT) Department has predicted snow and rains during the next two days.
“There will be snow and rains in Kashmir in coming two days. The weather will start improving from Wednesday afternoon,” Sonam Lotus, Director MeT office told Greater Kashmir. He said snowfall is expected in higher reaches while rains would lash the plains. 
With rains and fresh snowfall, cold conditions returned to Kashmir after over a week. “There was rise in day and night temperature during the past week,” MeT office said adding cold started to intensify its grip since Monday morning. “The cold conditions could further intensify during coming two days,” he said.
Met official said the minimum temperature was 3.3 degree, more than a degree above normal during last week. “After witnessing above normal temperature during the night, cloudy sky coupled with cold winds started to hit Kashmir since Monday morning,” he said.
While Srinagar-Jammu highway was open for traffic, however, it was snowing at Jawahar Tunnel when this report was being filed. “It’s snowing around the Jawahar Tunnel area and there have been rains at some places along the road,” Inspector General of Police (IGP) Traffic, Muneer Ahmad Khan told Greater Kashmir adding that more than 5000 vehicles crossed towards Jammu on Monday. “Subject to fair weather, the traffic will move from Jammu to Srinagar tomorrow,” he said.
